Anthony Fader (popping in and out)
I've attempted NaNoWriMo a few times before (NaNoWriMo is an annual writing event that challenges authors to write 50,000 words in one month), but never been able to follow through. I found the writing group really effective for keeping me on task and accountable to something outside of myself, which helped me write. When I was struggling, I took a break and wrote some poetry, which I hadn't done in a while. It was relaxing and when I returned to my novel draft, it was much easier. While I didn't ultimately meet my goal in the given month, I got the closest I've ever gotten and I ended up finishing the story I'd had planned, though it came in under on the word count. As I wrote, I exposed all sorts of problems with my story, which made it difficult to keep going, but also has given me a lot of ideas for how I'm going to revise it for my second draft.
